A. 소개하기

Oral presentation의 도입부에선 간단한 자기 소개(introduction)와 함께 발표할 주제(topic)가 무엇인지를 언급하게 된다.

* Formal meeting 이라면 간단한 자기 소개로 다음과 같은 표현을 쓸 수 있을 것이다.

My name is Hongil Dong; I am a professor (또는 post doctoral fellow/ Ph.D. candidate/graduate student) at the Department of Materials at GIST (in Korea).

*국제학회에 초대를 받은 podium presentation이라면 사회자로부터 소개를 받은 후 podium에 서게 되므로 먼저 사회자에게 예의를 표시하는 것으로 시작한다.  그 후  발표주제를 언급하는 것으로 발표를 시작한다.

Today, I would like to present to you about alloplantation of PEG-grafted pancreatic Islets.

*주제(topic of presentation)를 언급할 때 쓸 수 있는 표현:

1.topic vs content:

간혹 topic 이란 말 대신 content란 단어를 쓰는 학생들이 있는데 이 것은 틀린 것으로 topic이 맞는 단어이다.  content란 단어는 발표할 내용(presentation)의 전체적인 내용을 의미하기도 하고 책 내용 또는 그 내용을 손쉽게 알 수 있게 하는 개요를 말 한다.

예:

The content of this book is quite similar to the textbook we are using in class.

Let’s look at the content of this book to find out the topics it discusses.

I will have a several topics to discuss at today’s seminar.

2.research vs. research topic:

Topic이란 한 가지로 정해진 것이므로 my topic is … 라고 그 정해진 topic을 말 한다.

하지만 research 란 총채적인 것을 말 하므로 무엇에 관한, 또는 관련 된, 의 의미로 my research is related to …/is about … 라고 말 한다.  

3.explain, talk, present, discuss:

보편적으로 쓰는 단어들다.  이 때 각 단어의 어감이 약간 씩이나마 다르고 표현방법도 다르다.

present 란 단어는   al 한 어감으로 사용한다.

Today I would like to present to you about alloplantation of PEG-grafted Pancreatic Islets.

(여기서 명사형을 써서 to give a presentation on the subject of 로 표현할 수 도 있을 것이다.  I would like to give a presentation on the alloplantation of …)

4.talk이란 단어는 좀 더 informal한 느낌으로 사용한다.

Today I would like to talk about alloplantation of PEG-grafted Pancreatic Islets.

5.설명한다는 의미로 explain, discuss 란 단어도 쓸 수 있다. 단, explain은 presenter가 일방적으로 설명한다는 의미가 있고 discuss는 presenter가 발표하는 내용을 가지고 함께 의논해 본다는 의미로 쓰인다.

Today I would like to discuss about alloplantation of PEG-grafted Pancreatic Islets.

I would like to explain about the method of sCT-DOCA conjugate preparation.

1.오늘은 sCT-DOCA conjugate의 bioactivity test에 대한 발표를 하겠다.

The topic for today’s discussion will be the results of the bioactivity test of the sCT-DOCA conjugates.

2.오늘 회의에서 발표할 내용은 다음과 같은 것이다. : 먼저, 어떻게 sCT-DOCA conjugates들을 만들었는지 설명하겠다. 이 과정에서 FPLC, Mass 그리고 HPLC를 사용하였다. 그 다음 FPLC, Mass, HPLC 결과를 설명하겠다. 끝으로 준비하고 있는 다음 실험들에 대해 언급하겠다.

These are the topics for today’s discussion: I’ll first explain about how I have prepared sCT- conjugates DOCA using FPLC, Mass, and HPLC. Then, I will discuss about the results of the FPLC, Mass, and HPLC. Lastly, I will talk about what my further work will be in the following weeks.

3.My research topic is related to the delivery of anti-cancer drugs reducing their side effects.

My research topic is the delivery of anti-cancer drugs reducing their side effects.

My research has to do with the delivery of anti-cancer drugs.

4.This work has been developed for a few years in our lab.

현재완료형(present perfect simple:has been developed)이므로 그 연구가 완결을 본 상태를 말한다.

반면, this work has been going on: 현재완료진행형(present perfect continuous)이므로 그 연구가 이전 부터 계속되어 왔고 현재 완료가 됐을 수도 아니면 지속되고 있을 수도 있는 상태를 말한다.

따라서 연구가 지속되고 있는 상황이면 다음 표현이 옳을 것이다.

->This work has been going on for a few years in our lab.

(verb tense에 관해선 자료실 Others에서 verb tense 편을 참고 하기 바란다.)

5.(X)In this year I joined to develop tumor specific DOX-PEG conjugates based on angiogenesis.

난 올 해 이 연구에 참가하게 되었다, 의 뜻으로

->I joined the group this year to work on the development of tumor specific DOX-PEG conjugates based on angiogenesis. 가 맞다.

6. (X)Today, I just focus on cancer targeting using the MMPs, which are enzymes released from cancer cells.

->  I’d like to focus on cancer targeting using the MMPs, which are enzymes released from cancer cells.

I’d like to discuss specifically on targeting cancer targeting using the MMPs, which are enzymes released from cancer cells.

7. (X)Our cancer targeting system strategy is following: inactive  ulation of drug as a micelle, delivery of drug conjugate by EPR effect, and activation of drug by hydrolysis by MMPs.

이런 식의 문장은 oral 발표로선 딱딱하다는 느낌이 든다. 될 수 있으면 말을 풀어서 서술적으로 한다.

->Our strategy of the cancer targeting system involves the following: first, we prepare inactive  ulation of the drug as micelles, then, deliver the drug conjugate by EPR effect, and finally, activate the drug by hydrolysis using MMPs.
